RESEARCH

Research can be defined as the search for knowledge, or as any systematic investigation, with an open mind, to establish novel facts, solve new or existing problems, prove new ideas, or develop new theories, usually using a scientific method. The primary purpose for basic research (as opposed to applied research) is discovering, interpreting, and the development of methods and systems for the advancement of human knowledge on a wide variety of scientific matters of our world and the universe.

Evidence based practice aims to increase clinical effectiveness. Interventions which are found to be harmful or ineffective are discouraged, while others with more demonstrable benefits are introduced. The demand for maximum quality of care, combined with the need for prudent use of resources has increased pressure on health care professionals to ensure that clinical practice is based on sound evidence. Changes in treatments, an exponentially increasing volume of research information, and increasing expectations from clients to provide the best care possible, place high demands on therapists to maintain a service that is based on current best evidence
.

Our center promotes research activities and facilitates evidence based practice in the field of paediatric occupational therapy/speech therapy. Evidence based practice is conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making decision about the care of individual clients.

Our professionals perform following function to implement evidence based practice in our center
  1. Research databases to find studies relevant to our practice (e.g smiliar diagnosis, outcomes, setting)
  2. Evaluate the research and assess its applicability to our practice (e.g. similar core elements)
  3. Apply the research to our clients in logical ways. Clinical decisions need to be made regarding which parts of the study are applicable and how the evidence should be considered in clinical problem solving.
Outcome research can help therapist to establish benchmarks or standards for identifying the levels of performance improvement they can expect. With outcomes research, the therapist can identify the type of client who will likely derive benefit from intervention.

Our professionals are involved to construct various standardised assessment tool in the field of pediatric occupational therapy and develop new intervention strategies for autism, ADHD, learning disability children etc.
